PAIKA DANCE OF JHARKHAND
PAIKA : WHERE CULTURE MEETS COURAGE One of the most lively and traditional folk dances in Jharkhand is the Paika Dance. The word "Paika" derived from the word "Paik" meaning "foot soldier." It shows the braveness of the tribal groups especially the Munda, Oraon and Chotanagpur tribes. In this dance, people hold swords, shields and spears and their movements look like they are fighting. The beats of the Mandar, Nagara, and Shehnai give the performance rhythm and strength. Dancers usually wear dhoti, turbans and jewelleries that make them look like warriors. People do the Paika Dance on festivals, weddings, and community events to show their unity, braveness and proudness of their culture. It is still shown at cultural festivals and events for tourists today, keeping the warrior tradition of Jharkhand alive.
